the chicken, because the egg needed to be laid. the chicken could’ve evolved for thousands of years before it became the common gallus gallus domesticus we know today.
the way chickens reproduce may have evolved as well, so even though it could’ve began as a bacterium or a clump of cells thriving in some body of water, when it reached it’s final form (lol) it laid eggs to pop out chicks after it’d been fertilized. because evolution.

A species just before the evolution of a chicken could have laid the first ever chicken egg. Technically the egg would have come first from whatever species laid it and the first ever chicken came from it.
