Please make a Film category!

That’s it really. I have had some discussions with @Dollpower and others about how to categorize their bytes. I know that things are still fluid so I wanted to suggest.

I am really excited to see the future of 16 second looping films!

Would that refer to the style of shooting or just film in general? I’m for it though

Definitely about storytelling and not about style. Like it’s intended to be a “byte movie”. Probably more like scenes. But some don’t feel their movies fit in art so they shove them in experimental or don’t categorize at all. I think it could be a strong category.

Ooh, I see where you’re coming from. That could definitely work out

I keep trying to find more because there are a TON but they are so mixed in it’s difficult.

Like “Film Review?”

I mean, that could go there too, but I mean more of the scenes that people make specifically for byte. It can be stop motion, live action, animated ect. But “skits” that are not comedy don’t really have a place.

Something akin to, say, “Film/Cinematic”? Wherein the product itself is like a scene from a film, like the one you posted where there is implied narrative, and leaving the “Art” channel to the likes of, say, @tomshea’s posts. (Which, by the way, if you don’t follow him, you absolutely should!)

Yes! Exactly! And I love his work, but was looking through art and couldn’t find one of his posts.

I don’t know if he specifically links them to the Art channel - that was just the first clear example of Art vs. Film I could think of. :stuck_out_tongue:

He is usually in art and he has one in there right now but it’s digital art which is why I didn’t recognize it. https://byte.co/b/3YtpflWB5Bv

Also, if you need another example for “Film”, I did this post for the #endofamovie trend, and didn’t know where to put it, channel-wise…

Like, I consider this comedy but I honestly want to do more horror that’s not intended to be funny. https://byte.co/b/HvLcWfRmAOp

YES! See, that’s perfect and it is so hard to categorize. Maybe “film” is too bougie of a word and could intimidate people but I imagine a lot of good acting and editing in that type of category and it just doesn’t have a place right now IMO.

@JordanMiller will be interested in this!

After this post, Byte allows 5 min videos to compete with Quibi.

All joking aside, the Chinese version of TikTok Douyin allows top creator to extend their videos to 5 mins as vlog, guess to compete with YouTube- cause most vlog is 5mins and under. Just throwing that out there.

Yes I would but I highly doubt this would happen…

I think this is a great idea. It could work for quite a few of my posts.

I worry that “film” may make people feel like they have to be longer-form. Maybe “scene” with a clapboard for emphasis?

How about “Byte Cinema” or “CineByte?”
