Hey. I’m Zach. I’m new on the forums, and I love making, sharing, and listening to the wonderful music of Byte. After watching this community grow, I believe: W E A R E I N N E E D O F A C O L L A B F E A T U R E on Byte, especially for us musicians @dom. I read quite a bit of hate on the idea in different discussions. However, there are now a ton of incredibly unique Byters using their music to tell 16 second stories. I think a SUPER simple β““β“€β“ž feature would really help each musician grow through creativity and collaboration. (I’ll be honest, it’s the one thing missing on Byte that’s keeping me from deleting Tik-Tok permanently.)

What are everyone else’s thoughts?

You can download other people’s bytes and manually do a duo type thing. Tons of people have done this including myself.

I love collaboration and I think dms will help with thata lot.
I’m personally not very interested in a duo feature but I appreciate your desire to foster collaboration

Ok, I appreciate the response, Cheese! I guess I’m just fascinated as to why you WOULDN’T want an easier way to jam with others on Byte.

Well I don’t think this feature would actually make it easier. If I’m going to play along with someone then I have to write my part and record it and I reviewed many takes. I have to adjust the audio levels make sure my audio lines up with theirs. Doing all that outside of the app is a lot easier than what I imagine would be the process with this feature.
I think the duo feature would be too restrictive for me to get everything right

Quick question, have you used Tik-Tok’s duet feature? It’s incredibly easy and quick to use, as you can record takes over their videos. Your issue sounds like a setup/gear hindrance to me, Cheese. I improvise all of my takes with my USB -> audio interface, and run through my iRig straight into my iPhone. This allows me to re-record with great quality, and speed. Don’t β€œRube-Goldberg it” if you don’t need to man! You can see some examples on my Byte @zach.guitar.

No I haven’t. So my opinion is probably not really valid. I guess I’d have to know more about the inside and outside like is there a metronome count in feature? Could you make it continuously loop?
Also, I hadn’t thought of recording straight into my phone like that, sounds pretty cool

-Oh man, that would be amazing if there was a metronome built into it, that’s a fantastic idea! And yes Tik-Tok’s duet will loop so you can hear the playback take, you just have to press the button to start recording/clear takes. Check it out if you have a minute.

-And I’ve messed around with setups for awhile now, this has been the most efficient so far. If you want to know more feel free to shoot me a DM anywhere.

…You’ve got me dreaming about a sampler + metronome tool in Byte. The first version had a sampler grid with emojis so you could make micro beats and tunes. Maybe Dom has plans for integrating some of that back in?
