Dom, thank you for Byte and your hard work and everything. Found an old screenshot I thought you’d find amusing, and decided to turn it into a little post that is a story. I hope you enjoy it.
Disclaimer: These screenshots are random and out of order. This is a completely fabricated story please don’t attack me I try to be funny once a year. Dom please notice this took my hours.
In the beginning, there was the V2 Community Discord Server.
Many people wanted to thank Dom and to commemorate him for bringing Vine back for another generation. So they made memes to celebrate,
And so it began. First, as a community we helped Dom come up with a name. We had to get the worst ideas out of the way first.
Ha, imagine if the app ended up being called Byte.
There were many names we went through.
Completely different variations,
Thinking to call them,
My personal favourite,
It was tedious work.
He really did.
Slowly, Dom started settling into the community and getting comfortable as progress…well, progressed,
He learned his power,
But he wouldn’t join in on our group trends
He was getting comfortable with the prospect of picking a name.
He teased us relentlessly and like my father said 20 years ago:
But Dom did come back. My dad, not so much…
He was getting real comfortable
As the day approached for the name to become public and they were waiting to hear about all the legal stuff, there were more and more impersonators.
With good feedback and reassurance from Dom,
The day arrived, and we officially became know as the:
That’s definitely our fandom name.
There were ups and downs along the way,
I mean he lost his own beta invite…
He got cancelled so he had to do some damage control:
When the public build was released, there was a lot of commotion and activity.
There were a lot of downloads. People asked how many,
A lot of people asked Dom why he was getting less than 50 likes on his own posts when there were 1,000,000,00,0,00000000,000 users on Byte already, he said it was because of the algorithm. Also
At least he’s an honest dev.
It truly was the year of discovering things,
It was also the year of early onset dementia (it’s okay Dom, I have arthritis and I’m only 23),
A path of discovering himself,
A near death experience in which we lost on of our Moderators,
But he actually ended up alive so Dom had to damage control again…
But overall, the past (slightly over) two years have gone well, with the community finding itself, the public launch, and Dom’s journey to self discovery that I’m glad we were all there to experience with him.
And now the recent launch of the Partner Program!
Dom still may not like us,
But we love Dom. Thank you Byte HQ Team for everything!
