Creating a username of Famous social media brands before they make one themselves. Example: create username barstoolsports so when they come to create theirs it will say taken. Then forcing them to buy the account from you or is this an illegal frowned upon practice?
In general, claiming names like that isn’t a good idea. I believe they have a no tolerance policy towards claiming a bunch of “og” accounts, however, you should be able to have one or two extra accounts.
I wouldn’t recommend doing that due to legal reasons (trademark and/or copyrights), how would you feel if you were famous or had a brand and somebody else claimed your (brand) name as username?!
Byte is all about creativity, so come up with a new creative name!
This is just a conversation about what people have done on prior platforms to gain a quick buck.
Account sellers/traders get reported. Also it breaks the guidelines so staff can take actions even without reports.
Everything you make on byte belongs to you. Only post stuff that you yourself make. Usernames are provided for genuine use and enjoyment by the members of this community. Don’t squat or hoard them. Don’t pretend to be anyone else, whether it’s a person, brand, or organization. Make it clear when you’re parodying something.
It’s against the rules, and staff can just ban you and release the name again if you are trying to sell it.
If you are a creator who has claim to the account name, you can easily get it back from whoever has it through staff.
