Create A Channel - Byte Concept

So I think its a pretty well-known fact that we as users would LOVE a create a channel custom thingy so I decided to design how it might look like!

Here is my design:

I feel like gif integration with GIPHY would be amazing as a way to pick a channel profile picture, and ofc allowing users to pick our own gifs from the gallery! Thoughts?

Your mock up looks nice, /tbh. Aside from an area for rules (which I think the “describe your community” can be used for), you touched on everything.

I’d like to see the older channel icons get used again (black bg, and colored) as default choices for “channel icons.”

The next button may not need the rbg shadow, but it’s good otherwise :+1:

This would be :fire:

I’ve always kinda liked this, but I think that ability should be reserved for byte’s admins. We definitely want more communities to be a bit Reddit like but for video.

Yet, giving people all that power will make the communities very disorganized, duplicates and potentially offensive communities could be made.

Popular creators should be allowed their own communities after a certain amount of followers, say 10k for rn to make it hard but not impossible.

Your UI design is beautiful tho

i kinda disagree because while there will always be people who are inclined to make something offensive i still feel like we should be able to make our own communities. Byte should have moderation and ways to approve the Channels before they go out imo, which would prevent a BUNCH of the offensive channels. I as a byte forum mod would even volunteer to go through applications of channels in my free time cuz why not? Interesting to see where this will go and cant wait to see more updates and things!

Also thanks for the compliments! :)))) appreciate it!

The giphy integration looks really good

Yeah, I’d love this if they had moderators approve each community, insuring there are no duplicate or spam. One suggestion would be a star requirement maybe 20 just to insure that everyone making a community understands how the app works and have spent a good time on it. This will mainly be to cut down on the applications coming in but you don’t need to phrase it that way.

I don’t think duplicate channels is a problem. Is it a problem on Reddit?

Yes, there are thousands of very simular communities, which works fine on there but because of the way we show channels it would make the explore page chaotic

Well then change the explore page

I do like the star requirement a lot! Maybe even bring it up to 50-100 stars or something like that so bots wouldn’t cause problems! Only dom knows… lol

Also we could make the explore page different every day and show new communities daily… Like a spotlight for them too!

Sorry that sounded rude. I just meant the explore page could be changed to accommodate thousands of channels

That’s true, just trying to make the communities a bit more organized than a free for all. We have hashtags for that.

Also, I don’t believe any two communities should have the same gif. Just a personal preference but I think it would make a difference.

Also, Dom got in trouble a bit ago for using a gif without the creators permission or credits, so we’d have to make sure that Giphy holds all rights to their gifs.

Oh yeah ofc with the gifs. I feel like when you make a category with a GIPHY gif, there would be a little watermark / credit saying whose it is and when clicked it would link to the persons GIPHY profile. Much to think about

also if this happened, we would need a way to search channels on the home page and when you’re posting a video

The two problems with Reddit I’d hate to see replicate:

I think there are like 12 people who are mods for a couple dozen of the biggest subreddits. They control all the moderation.

When communities diverge a second one pops up that’ll just have a number or a plural word or extra letter

Setting a cap on the number of channels you can moderate could help
