Welcome to byte bulletin #11! In which we break the stretch of quiet.
So how’s everyone doing??
There’s a lot of visible movement happening now. You may have noticed the recent flurry of activity happening within the app (beta tester badges! credits!) and on the site (new banner! community guidelines!). We’re also touching up this forum, shifting some categories around with an eye toward helping new visitors find their way a bit better.
Launch is extremely close, but we’re waiting now on a few pieces that are completely out of our control, so as of this moment, as much as we would love to, we can’t commit to anything.
It’s been so nice to see you all taking stock this week, saying how much this community has meant to you. It’s been such a source of fun and encouragement for our team. We’ve loved seeing you all come together around byte, and the beta has been a joy to be part of, so thank you all for participating, experimenting, debugging, and just being here. This place is definitely not going anywhere.
We also have a couple of updates to share that will hopefully clear up the mystery around some aspects of what it will mean to launch.
First, we’ve had to make some tough decisions about where the app will be available when it comes out. One thing we’ve really enjoyed is how international the beta has been. But the reality is that we’re a small team and want to be responsible and realistic about what we can support right out of the gate, so we’re starting with a slightly smaller list of countries. We will of course work to expand it post-launch, but here’s our initial working list:
- Czech Republic
- Hong Kong
- New Zealand
- United Kingdom
- United States
If your country is not on this list, the bright side is that if you are currently a beta tester, you can continue to use the app through TestFlight or (as a beta tester on) Play Store.
The plan post-launch is to continue running both iOS and Android betas. We’ll use them to test out new features, so it will be an interesting place to preview stuff before the general public.
We also got a bunch of new beta sign-ups after we sent friend invite codes and we still plan to add those folks as testers.
Thank you all for your patience while we focus on launch!
(^^trying a little switcheroo up there)
